A Poz-Vibration House Party in our Poz-Vibration Town--The Three Rivers Angler River Show #1
Last week, some friends of mine and I
threw our first pop-up concert: Dustan Louque on the Holston
River. Perhaps you were there, if not,
we hope to see you October 10th for Paleface and Mo—stay tuned for
more details.
As far as this past weekend’s
river show, Dustan Louque, the river, and his brand new fans collaborated to
create a great escape just 15 mins from downtown. Louque’s artistry is exquisite. And when a soulful and talented artist is paired
with people who love original and independently driven music the outcome is
always going to be notable and even inspiring.
What levitates the experience even higher is the pop-up party
setting. Whether the concert is set at a
riverside, a garage, backyard, abandoned church, or barn, the event’s DIY ethos
and communal generosity saturates the gathering. These concerts also spread the gospel that
music belongs everywhere.
Last Saturday night it certainly belonged on the Holston River. The interstate in the distance accompanied Louque--providing a continual rolling thunder which served as a warped bottom to his other band mates the 1,000 plus cicadas whose chipping rose and fell. The river shot thru the channel between us and Armstrong Island adding a visually rhythmic treat to the aural delight. Louque sings with a slight rasp that he smoothly delivers like honey on slightly burnt toast. His stage movements are free and elliptical with his intonations and phrasings following his physical patterns. I've heard others apply acoustic guitar to the lush electronic sounds of the eighties (he was and is a Depech Mode fan) but never as naturally and gratifyingly as Dustan Louque. We thank the East Knoxville Fishing Club and Three Rivers Angler for hosting this intimate and joyful concert.

Jump and jive into the ROOTS ROCK PUNKY TONK that is setting up at Prez Pub tonight! April 28, 2015
LOW CUT CONNIE is one of the best party bands out
there. If Jerry Lee Lewis and Karen O
had children they would be the members of Low Cut Connie (And the 70's version
of David Bowie would be their fav. Uncle/Muse).
You'll have to call the Prez Pub (865) 524 2224 for
showtimes--but it's worth the dime and time.
On Saturday night--May 2--Prez
Pub is putting on a jam and blues rock mini-fest: Soul Mechanic (featured in
the above video) Calabash, and Jake and the Comet Conductors.
Peace and Health,
Zeno Songbird

Gangsta Grasstasstic!
Still high from the fresh grass revival last night @ The Standard Knoxville--thank you much Gangstagrass and Rhythm N' Blooms Festival and God Bless America as artists like these guys continue to bring love and exploration to the world.
Gangstagrass is made up of talented artists who blend seamlessly despite the fact that three are in Brooklyn, one in Austin, and two in Philly. They flowed, jammed, and took us all above the roof with a swampy and high lonesome sound to hip hop beats and rhymes. They might have been a hybrid at one point, but they're a genre now--a genre that will carry their name in to music history.
"Rench (sic the band's guitarist and producer) first came up with the concept back in grade school when he would breakdance on cardboard to RUN-DMC during recess, then go home and listen to his parents’ favorite country artists Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson on the stereo. Before long, he found common denominators between the two genres that were as obvious to him as grooves on vinyl (http://gangstagrass.com/gangstagrass-page/)
After performing full tilt for almost two hours, Dolio the Sleuth and Rench share an after-the-show moment with fans. Dobro player Landry McMeans is pictured with her back to Dolio. As I write this entry, these guys are taking the stage in Ann Arbor, so more human beings are about to be transformed. Come back to Marble City soon +Gangstagrass !!!! --Zeno Songbird

HUMMINGBIRD POSTS March 16th thru March 23rd 2015
--YONATON GAT (GUITARIST WHO DESCRIBES HIS MUSIC AS "homeless between the Middle East and New York.” Zeno Songbird adds that it’s trippy, tight, and fresh. He’s creating soundscapes below innocent melodies, maybe aural figures for “homeless” children. And some of his power licks are amped and distorted like Neil Young’s soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man. And enjoy runs tinged with the Ventures and the best guitar sounds out of the Prog Rock era. He’s not afraid to experiment, but he’s making music, not noise. Also appearing will be Knoxville’s multidimensional, raspy singer-songwriter, Klint Kratzer @ THE PILOT LIGHT MONDAY, MARCH 16TH @ 10:00 PM, AGE 18+, $10.

This could be very interesting:
Plunderphonics, thought stimulating rappers who derive much of their inspiration from legendary experimental musician/composer John Oswald. This is a public outdoor free festival so I imagine they’ll leave explicit language out of their performance but I cannot say for sure. Thirty years ago, composer John Oswald was mixing prerecorded tunes before anyone else. It’s cool to know there are three young guys living in Koxville in 2015 who are expressing themselves with techniques that their sonic patriarch created.
